The summer truffle, also known as the Burgundy truffle is one of the most common and most widely used of all edible truffles in all of Europe.

The summer truffle is very distinctive, on the outside (the peridium) is black with large pyramid-shaped warts. While the inside (gleba) is whitish to hazel colour. The veins are crowded, thin and whitish.

Season

The best times for Summer truffles are June to September when it ripens, but it is not uncommon to find it all year round.

Characteristics 

A light and delicate aroma and flavour, that is nutty, creamy and sweet.
